1000 Letter Campaign Samples

COMPLETE SAMPLE LETTER

Offered as a guideline. Please use your own words to express the concerns that are important to you.

Premier Brad Wall
Room 226, 2405 Legislative Drive,
Regina, Saskatchewan,
S4S 0B3

Dear Premier Wall:

It is critically important to me that the PFRA Pastures are not sold or developed. As a life- long resident of Saskatchewan the natural world is very important to me and my children. Government must recognize the many public benefits offered by the pastures and public input needs to be solicited. Producers should not be responsible for paying for public benefits.

Please let me know what your government’s plans are for the pastures. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Your Signature

Your full name

Your mailing address

Your e-mail address, telephone and fax number.

It is very important to include your full name and mailing address, even if you are e-mailing or faxing your letter to the Premier.

Knowing the location  where letters come from is very important to elected officials.

OTHER SAMPLE PARAGRAPHS

Use your own words to express the ideas you want to put forward.

As a rural resident, I feel that preserving our very limited native grasslands is very important. The PFRA Pastures contain some of the best managed and largest blocks of native grasslands in Saskatchewan. Public benefits must be recognized and secured by the government.  Pasture patrons do not have the means or time for the management of all public values that is needed.

Can you give me your assurance that your government will recognize the many public benefits offered by the pastures? Thank you in advance for your reply.

*************************

I have recently been teaching children about Species at Risk including the Burrowing Owl. It has come to my attention that our PFRA Pastures contain over two dozen endangered species. This comes as a surprise, but also shows how important these pastures are to wildlife. As a person who owns livestock, I know that managed grazing and wildlife can co-exist. It is very important that our pastures are not sold off and are maintained and managed for all the people of Saskatchewan.

Can you let me know what the future plans are for the pastures? Thank you for your reply.

*************************

As a hunter and conservationist I have traveled throughout much of southern Saskatchewan. I have often had the privilege to hunt in PFRA Pastures in the fall once the livestock have been removed. The pasture managers have always been very helpful in providing direction to me and the public. Our pastures are the best remaining blocks of grasslands inSaskatchewan. Continued public ownership and management will ensure that wildlife will continue to abound in these pastures and future hunters using the pastures will contribute millions of dollars to our economy. I am not sure what the future holds for the pastures.

Can you confirm that your government will not privatize the pastures and will recognize and preserve the many public benefits from these heritage rangelands? Thank you for your reply.

*************************

As someone who has enjoyed nature all my life, it is very important to me that the PFRA Pastures be retained by the Crown and managed for livestock grazing while looking after biodiversity and all public values provided by these rare grasslands.

Please assure me that you will not allow these very important grasslands to be sold or degrading by unsustainable management, and that you will ensure broad public oversight will be sought in identifying and maintaining the many important societal benefits. I await your reply. I await your reply.

As this is International Year of the Soil, maybe you can use that as another argument for public control.

Are these samples still accurate? Or has much of this land been sold/developed already? Do you have suggestions of any modifications necessary?
I’m helping to organize an event in Saskatoon where we screen Plight of the Grassland Birds. We want to provide people with an action to take after seeing the film, and are planning to suggest they write a letter to their representative.
